Many People Are Smiling With Me Now 06/21/2011
Charles J. M. Moulton Grade 7th Annie Banks Elementary and Junior High School Brewerville When I first entered Annie Banks School, I was very violent. I could not follow teacher instructions, I came and left school any time I wanted. I was very abusive to both teachers and students. But when I started taking peace education in the classroom and learning about the importance of being peaceful, I stopped my violent behavior. Now peace is important in my life. Peace Education is teaching me how to get away from trouble with people. Peace Education is teaching me how to be peaceful and make friends. It is also helping me to live in peace with people in my community, home, and church. The Peace Education subject is helping me to be peacefully and to love everybody and to make peace in my family, schools, and among my friends. When we had the end of the semester peace program at Pamela Kay High School, in December 2010, the program changed my life. I no longer speak abusively to anybody, I am humble, respectful, and follow instructions at all times. Overall, I take Peace to be important because it has changed my life from violence to peace. I promise to be peaceful in my life forever and to forgive everybody and to make peace at all times. My parents are very happy with me and I notice that my parents, teachers, friends, and neighbors now smile a lot more with me than ever before. Thanks for Peace Education!! Chea Cheguah Grade 12th student: Pamela Kay High School Ray Hill Field, Lower Virginia It all happened at the Pamela Kay campus between two friends James and Ush. Both men were engaged in a violently fight on the school grounds. After helping to cease the tension and letting the both parties cool off their angers, I stopped and began my investigation. James said a student on campus decided to sell his necklace for $10.00USD. This person was a close friend of Ush. A week later, the seller decided to get his necklace back from James the buyer. So the seller then returned James $10.00USD, but James refused to accept the money. James insisted that he needed 20% interest on his money. Ush then questioned the reason why James was asking for $20% addition to the $10.00. Ush insisted that it was unfair. Ush then slapped his chest during the argument (a sign of disrespect within the Liberia culture) say that he was going to get the necklace from James. Because Ush punched on his own chest, James became annoyed, as it was a sign of disrespect, so then James retaliated with blow into Ush face. It resulted into a violent fight. Some of my friends helped and we put the fight to an end. When things calm down a little, I called the both parties to a neutral ground and explain the importance of being a peaceful person. I concluded by saying that the two of them should put aside all violent habits that will cause one to get annoy with the other. After an hour of investigation and consoled, both James and Ush embraced each other. The case ended in a win-win solution. James accepted his $10.00 and Ush friend accepted his necklace. Ush then apologized for not taking the time to look into the matter. In the end, all sides promised to be friends and apologized to the school administration for disrupting classes and promised never to fight on campus again. The school, then Thank me for bringing peace. I then thank my Peace Education teachers for teaching me the skills needed to resolve conflicts peacefully. Cecelia Gbarley 11th grade class Pamela Kay High School “I enjoy studying peace education as a subject because it helps me a lot to mediate between people in conflict at my school, home and in the community. Before the subject was taught in our school, we had many disrespectful students. Thanks to our peace education teachers, because since we started taking peace education many students are respectful and calm instead of being rude. I want to encourage the government to really support peace education in Liberia; this will help us as youths since we are traumatized from the 13 years civil war.” I Love Peace Education! 04/15/2011
